ChessTool PGN es una aplicación informática de uso gratuito, para leer y grabar partidas de ajedrez en el formato Portable Game Notation (PGN). Gestiona los ficheros de base de datos de partidas de ajedrez guardados en el formato PGN. La aplicación ha sido diseñada sobre la base de la Portable Game Notation Specification and Implementation Guide.
Permite la administración de los ficheros de partidas de ajedrez, la modificación de los mismos o la creación de nuevos. La lectura sobre un tablero y notación de las partidas contenidas en los mismos, su modificación o la creación de nuevas partidas.
Permite añadir partidas, modificar las existentes, configurarlas desde la posición que se deseé, exportar la imagen gráfica del tablero, exportar la partida, introducir comentarios en los movimientos y notaciones NAG (Numeric Annotation Glyph), asigna automáticamente código ECO, nombre de apertura y variante según la Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, y el código NIC (New in Chess), anotación de variantes y subvariantes, la promoción de estas y el establecimiento como variante principal.
